The East African-Microscopy 2021 Workshop was hosted virtually by the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa, from the 24^th -27^th May 2021.

In this East African Chapter, a survey was rolled out to the East African microscopy community both in private and academic institutions to draft workshop topics in a similar manner to the MSSA workshop 2020. The workshop topics were specific to east Africa but relevant to microscopy society at large, hence the registration was open to everyone to attend. In collaboration with leading African microscopy researchers, including representatives from east Africa, as well as leading microscope instrument suppliers, the topics were then tailor made to fit the East African needs. In all the topics a researcher and trade representative gave a presentation. Topics covered includes sample preparation techniques for both SEM and TEM with parallel sessions for Material and life sciences, Light microscopy, Laser Confocal Microscopy, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Transmission Electron Microscopy, Spectroscopy Supporting techniques in relation to Microscopy (RAMAN & XRD). This time the students had an opportunity to present their research on social media and had a platform to engage throughout the workshop.
