The Microscopy in Material Science 2018 Workshop was held from 3rd – 5th December 2018, at the Wits Science Stadium (WSS) 1 & 2, on the Braamfontein Campus, West, at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.
This workshop was aimed at giving an introduction to the principles, Techniques and application of Electron microscopy. These included Scanning Electron microscopy (SEM), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and its attachments Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) as well as Electron backscattered Diffraction (EBSD). Hands on training were done on the EBSD software which was performed in the computer lab and students were able to bring their own images for analysis. A pre workshop questionnaire was set out and the summarized in each topic presented. The workshop was designed in order to cover all users even in disadvantaged Universities at no cost.
